What is Sector Discovery?

The Sector Discovery dashboard is your competitive intelligence hub. While traditional media monitoring tells you who got the most press coverage, Sector Discovery tells you who is winning the mindshare of generative AI.

Instead of tracking specific keywords, it runs a curated, industry-wide analysis across the major AI models to evaluate how the market is perceived. By analyzing how models respond to broad prompts about market leaders, trusted providers, and sector innovators, it ranks your organization against competitors. The result is a clear, unbiased picture of your true market position and competitive standing within the AI ecosystem.

Navigating the Dashboard

The dashboard is divided into three main tabs, moving from a high-level market overview down to the specific URLs driving the AI’s answers.

Tab 1: Competitor Landscape

The overarching view of who is leading the AI narrative in your sector.

  • Competitor Snapshot: A ranked leaderboard of the organizations AI models mention most often. Your brand is always highlighted in a dedicated “You” row. You can toggle this list to rank by Visibility % (how often an organization appears), Top 3 Rate (how often they are recommended first), or Average Rank.
  • Visibility Trend: A multi-line chart tracking how visibility changes over time. Your organization’s line is emphasized so you can easily spot if a competitor is suddenly gaining ground.
  • Visibility by Reputation Pillar: Stacked bars showing exactly why organizations are being mentioned. Is your competitor visible because of their Innovation, or are they dominating the Integrity conversation?
  • Topic Word Cloud: A visual map of the dominant products, services, or themes associated with the AI’s answers. The size of the word indicates mention volume, while the color indicates the sentiment attached to that topic.

Tab 2: [Your Brand]’s Position

A focused look at your specific performance and the metrics behind your competitive standing.

  • The AI View Score Donut: A visual breakdown of your central 0–100 score. More than just a tracking number, this score is a definitive benchmark of your competitive brand health. By synthesizing Visibility, Authority, Freshness, Sentiment, and Dominance into a single value, it instantly shows whether you are leading or lagging behind sector rivals. An outer ring displays the period average and the current sector leader for context, giving you a clear, measurable target for PR improvement.
  • AI Sector Narrative: A synthesized summary of how AI models position and frame your brand within the broader industry. It gives you a clear sense of your overall market presentation at a glance, without needing to read every raw response.
  • KPI Cards: Four key metric cards—Sources (citation count), Avg Rank, Visibility %, and Sentiment. Each card features a trend sparkline and a delta badge showing how you’ve changed since your last run. If you aren’t leading a category, the card will call out which competitor is.
  • Score Trend: A historical chart of your AI View Score over time, which you can split to see performance by individual reputation pillars or by specific AI models.

Tab 3: Source Analysis

The evidence room. This tab breaks down the specific media and domains feeding the AI models.

  • Source Breakdown by Organization: Stacked bars comparing you and your competitors based on the media fueling your mentions. You can toggle this view to compare by Source Type (Earned, Owned, User-Generated), Source Age, or Sentiment.
  • Content Type Mix: A donut chart showing the exact media types—like News, Industry Reports, Forums, or Company Content—that are shaping the sector’s AI perception.
  • Source Domains Table: A ranked list of the most influential websites feeding the AI’s answers about your industry.
  • Evidence Drill-Down Table: The ultimate transparency tool. Any chart segment on this page can be clicked to open this table. It lists the exact Source URLs, domains, publication dates, and the specific AI model that cited them.

Actionable Insights: Turning Sector Data intoAction

  • Visibility vs. Rank: If your Visibility % is high but your Top 3 Rate is low, use the Competitor Snapshot to investigate. Your organization might be mentioned frequently across the sector, but if AI models consistently list you at the bottom of their responses, they view you as a secondary player rather than a primary market leader.
  • Competitor Spikes: If a competitor suddenly overtakes you in the Visibility Trend, view their sources in the source analysis tab. They might have just launched a major PR campaign or published a flagship report; drilling-down to see the exact URLs driving their surge allows your team to effectively counter-pitch or match their media efforts.
  • Pillar Influence: If a competitor is pulling ahead in your sector, toggle the Visibility by Reputation Pillar chart to see why. A rival might be monopolizing the narrative around Innovation, signaling that your communications team needs to aggressively pitch your own R&D milestones to reclaim that thematic territory in the AI’s training data.
  • Media Quality Gaps: If your overall AI View Score is trailing a competitor’s, check the Source Breakdown by Organization chart. Your brand might have a high volume of citations, but if they primarily originate from User-Generated content (forums/blogs) while your competitor is dominating Tier-1 Earned News, AI models will grant your competitor higher authority and better positioning.
