An overview of the analytics dashboard within the Isentia platform. This includes an introduction to the different analysis charts and reporting options that are available to measure and visualise your media coverage and share your data with stakeholders.
The integrated analytics dashboard in the Isentia platform helps you visualise and gain a deeper understanding of your media items. Using in-depth analysis charts, and additional reporting tools you can better understand your media items, and share your data with other stakeholders in your preferred format.
Your dashboard
Your dashboard is a visualisation of all of your media items. You can build, customise and manage your dashboard to suit your needs and select from a range of charts to measure your media coverage and gain valuable insights into what your media items can tell you.
- Dashboard selection (1) – Set up and manage multiple dashboards and select which dashboard you are viewing.
- Add a chart (2) – Add a new analysis chart to your dashboard.
- Build dashboard report (3) – Build a shareable report that includes all the charts on your dashboard.
- Your media charts (4) – A display of all the analysis charts on your dashboard.
- Date range (5) – Select the date range you want to use to analyse matching media coverage.
Analysis Charts
Your dashboard comprises analysis charts that measure and analyse your media coverage. There is a variety of analysis charts that you can choose from and use to dive deeper into your media coverage, including charts that measure the volume and sentiment of your media items, and the top journalists or publications throughout your coverage.
Chart metrics
Each chart in the dashboard can provide a different insight into your media coverage. Primarily, each chart will measure one of the three following metrics from each of your media items:
- Volume: The total number of media items in a topic.
- Potential reach: Attributed audience data on media items.
- Advertising Space Rate: The cost an organisation would incur to buy an advertisement in a specific media outlet for a particular position expressed as currency.
Note: We use different metrics to calculate audience and ASR figures for each media type, and this data is provided where available.
How to add a chart to your dashboard
To add a new chart, select Add Chart on the dashboard screen and follow the below steps: You can have up to nine charts on your dashboard, so if you already have nine charts created and try to add an additional chart, you will be prompted to remove one first.
- Select the chart type you want to use.
- Select which topic you want to measure in your chart. This will provide the media items that will be analysed.
- Choose which metrics to measure in your chart, including the volume of items or attributed audience or ASR figures.
- Select the date range of coverage (in your chosen topics) that you want to measure. You can analyse content up to 12 months previously.
- Click Add to Dashboard to finalise the setup of your new chart.
Analysis chart actions
Once a chart has been added to your dashboard, you can take several additional actions to further understand and interact with your analysis.
Automated Commentary
To help you understand what your chart is telling you, all the charts on your dashboard include an automated commentary explaining the key insights and data points being displayed.
Media item drill down
Clicking into a segment or data set on a chart in your dashboard will take you through to the media items that make up that piece of data.
This allows you to instantly understand which media items are relevant to each piece of analysis. From this view, you can select an individual media item to open the full item view, add items to your topics, or to a manual report so you can share the items with other team members.
Hide individual data points
You can dynamically change the data displayed in your chart by hiding any of the individual data points that are shown and removing the attributed media items from your analysis.
For example, if you are looking at an overview of your media types, you can choose to remove your broadcast content and understand your coverage from a different point of view. Any hidden data points will be greyed out, but you can add them back into your chart by reselecting them.
Additional Chart Options
You can access additional chart options by clicking on the ellipsis shown on each chart. From here, you can edit or delete a chart, build a PDF report containing that chart and related coverage, or export the chart in your preferred format.
Editing or deleting a chart
You can edit how an individual chart is set up, including the chart type, the media items being analysed or the metrics being measured.
Note: Deleting a chart will remove it from your dashboard. Once you’ve deleted a chart, if you need to analyse the same data again, you will need to recreate it using the Add a chart option.
Build a PDF Report
This will take you to the report builder, where you can create a customised PDF report containing your chosen chart and its related media items.
Export your chart
- CSV – Export the raw data behind your chart into a spreadsheet format containing the total for each data segment shown on your chart.
- PNG – Download the chart as a PNG image.
- SVG – Download your chart as an image suitable for web pages. For those unfamiliar with this format, SVG is an XML-based vector image that can scale to fit web pages. Unlike JPG or PNG, it does not consist of a fixed set of dots but a description of shapes and their attributes, so it can be saved as the smallest size possible.
Customising your dashboard
Your dashboard is exactly that—yours. So, in addition to being able to select from a wide range of charts to populate your dashboard with data, you can also personalise how your dashboard is set up to make it as easy as possible for you to work with.
Renaming your dashboard
Your dashboard will be given a generic title by default. However, you can rename it to something more relevant to you by replacing the default text with a title of your choosing.
So if you have access to multiple dashboards, you may want to rename each dashboard in line with what is being analysed. Once you’ve added your title just select the tick to confirm and save your new dashboard title.
Ordering your charts
The order of your charts will depend on the order you added them. Your newest chart will always be added to the bottom of your dashboard, but you can rearrange your dashboard and the order in which your charts are displayed depending on your preferences.
To reorder your charts, hover over the chart you want to move and use the navigation icon to drag and drop the chart to where you want it.
Note: The order of your charts in your dashboard will be reflected in any dashboard reports that you create.
Chart sizes
When you create your dashboard, some charts may be better displayed at a larger size. To ensure you can clearly see your charts in all their glory, you can customise the size they are displayed at on your dashboard.
To change the size of your charts, select the additional options, and select your desired chart size.
Chart Names
By default, each of the charts on your dashboard will include a generic title based on the type of chart that has been selected. For greater customisation of your dashboard, you can choose to rename any of your charts to make them more relevant to you.
There may be instances where you have two of the same chart type on your dashboard, so being able to add extra information to a chart title will help you identify which chart you are viewing.
To rename a chart, select the chart title and add your custom name of up to 40 characters.
Multiple dashboards
Depending on your Isentia service, you may have access to set up, create, and manage multiple analytics dashboards in your Isentia account.
If you have access to this feature, multiple dashboards can help you measure and analyse different topic areas simultaneously. For example, you can have a dashboard that measures your organisation’s self-mentions and the mentions of individual spokespeople, or you can use multiple dashboards to break down your coverage across each of your media types.
If you have access to this feature, you can add additional dashboards by selecting the ‘+’ next to your current dashboard.
Dashboard Reports
Dashboard reports give you the power to share your data with other team members in the form of customisable reports that can be distributed in a format that suits you.
Extra dashboard information
Below are some additional tips to help you get the most out of your Isentia analytic dashboard.
- Any dashboards you create in the Isentia platform will remain templated to your account. So, next time you log in, just update your date range, and your charts will refresh to display relevant data.
- Typically, you can analyse data up to 12 months ago in your dashboard. If you require analysis beyond this period, please contact your account management team.
- When analysing multiple topics in one chart, you may see a segment called “others.” Since you can have a maximum of ten segments on one chart, the dashboard automatically groups the smallest remaining folders under a segment called “others.”
